Oh dear, such a long time since I updated my web page. And so much going on. Daughter, husband and three children visiting for Christmas, builders, new central heating, bad health, more builders, more bad health.
Seeing family, especially grandchildren is such a special privilege, especially when they make the journey from Japan with three under-fives.
The building and central heating have been one of those periods where the pain has to be endured for the pleasure to come – real deferred gratification, but the conservatory is now a great all-season room.
Despite everything going on, there are one or two poetry developments to report.
June saw a month’s residency at Smallhythe Place, our local National Trust property, and the home of actress Ellen Terry.

We ran four creative writing workshops on Saturday mornings, leading to a pamphlet of the creative responses to different items in the collection.
One outcome of the residency was a request for more creative writing opportunities locally. In response I’m starting a new Tenterden and Rye Stanza group, with the blessing of the Poetry Society.

We will meet on the second Tuesday of the month, and our first meeting is next week, August 12th, at 7:00 pm. It’s going to be held on Zoom and the intention is to open the meeting with a couple of modern poems to discuss, followed by a writing workshop. The second part will be for critiquing each other’s work. The overall intention is to provide a positive and supportive environment for us all to develop our skills.
This month I am working with Tenterden Museum

The curator, Naomi Dickins, will introduce us to some of the exhibits as an introduction to our creative writing workshops. Again, the intention is to produce a booklet of work in September.
